Implement LED lighting throughout the warehouse
LED lights are an incredibly energy-efficient alternative to other lighting options on the market. It’s important that a warehouse of any size is well-lit, mainly for health and safety reasons. But it also makes it easier for workers to see where everything is, making for a more efficient and productive way of working.
Not only are LED lights better for the environment, but the switch will also save you money when it comes to your energy bills. You’ll be able to save as much as 90% on your lighting costs by swapping out your conventional lightbulbs for their LED counterparts.
In addition to that, LED lightbulbs last far longer than other lighting options, giving around 50,000 hours of artificial light . This means less maintenance and fewer replacements which will also save you, not only money, but time as well.
Ensure your premises is insulated properly
Much like with a residential property, a premises that’s well-insulated will keep the cold out during the winter and the heat out during the summer. This will ensure your workers can work in a comfortable environment, especially during the summer months when heat can become intolerable
As well as ensuring the wellbeing of your employees, it will also save you money on your energy bills. If you have the heating on during the winter, you might find that, with a well-insulated warehouse, it’s on for a short amount of time and the heat will be retained even after it has been switched off.
You’ll also notice fewer draughts and leaks by plugging up holes and external damages. Once you’ve invested in property insulation, you’ll find that it lasts for many years, making it a worthwhile investment for any warehouse owner.
Have new windows and doors installed
This is generally done to improve insulation even further. Old windows and doors, especially if they’re old or poorly-fitted, will affect the temperature of your warehouse. Wooden frames with single-pane glass will allow heat to pour in during the summer and the cold to set in during the winter.
Double or even triple-glazed windows and doors will add insulation to external openings. As already discussed, a well-insulated premises will save you money and keep your workers comfortable in the long-run and changing old windows and doors is just another step in the insulation process.
Choose electric or LPG-powered vehicles
Encourage recycling & the reuse of materials where possible
This should be done regardless of whether you own a warehouse or not. An increasing number of businesses are taking the steps to encourage their employees to recycle and reuse materials where possible and this is just as important if you own a warehouse or work in that particular industry.
You should make sure your workers are separating recyclable materials from those that cannot be recycled. Using materials, such as plastic wraps and even wooden pallets, again should also be encouraged and even rewarded. Offering incentives for such practices will help to increase the number of people who do the aforementioned.
Perhaps give out prices for the people or reuse the most materials or who recycle the most. You could even reward them for bringing in their own pack lunches using tupperware boxes and reusable water bottles. No matter what you offer, this will encourage eco-friendly practices throughout your warehouse. This might even help to set yourself apart from your competitors, making you more attractive to your customers.
