6 Popular Uses for a Forklift Truck

6 Popular Uses for a Forklift Truck

Forklift trucks are commonly associated with warehousing and distribution, but what else can they be used for? In this article, not only are we going to be touching on the benefits of forklifts in the warehouse or distribution centres, but we’re also going to be discussing how forklifts can be used in other industries and for other applications, some of which might surprise you. Here are six popular uses of a forklift truck, including in the warehouse:

1. Forklifts in warehousing

Perhaps the most common uses for forklifts, regardless of the fuel type or the size of the forklift itself, is to carry loads in warehouses and distribution centres. Warehousing and distribution can be done both inside and outdoors, so you’ll be able to choose between electric, diesel and LPG forklift fuel types.

Forklifts can be used to load and unload pallets from even the highest of warehouse racking. From VNA and multidirectional forklifts right through to pallet trucks and scissor lifts, a warehouse needs to have the right tools available to do the job. While a forklift fleet is incredibly beneficial to warehousing operations, warehouses often need the assistance of other pieces of warehouse equipment and Multy Lift are on hand to supply it for you.

2. Forklifts in construction

Forklifts are incredibly useful on construction sites. The construction industry naturally deals with large, heavy and bulky items and materials, such as bricks, wood, metal joists and concrete beams, to name just a few. In addition, construction is usually carried out outdoors, meaning you will need an incredibly robust and powerful forklift that will also be able to effortlessly navigate uneven, rough or loose terrain, even whilst carrying the heaviest of loads.

Diesel forklifts can do this job for you. They’re designed to be able to transport heavy items with very little effort required. You will always be able to rely on a diesel forklift to get the job done in the construction industry. In addition, using a forklift to do the job also means that you won’t have to bring out large pieces of equipment, which can be inconvenient to bring out and put away again.

3. Forklifts on the loading docks

Despite being used, mainly, in warehousing and distribution, forklifts are actually incredibly versatile pieces of machinery, which is why they can also be found on loading docks. Forklifts are used by the operator who will slide the forks into the pallets to load and unload them from shipping containers, right on the docks. Most shipping containers will have different compartments within them, making it easier for forklift operators to load and unload stock efficiently and quickly.

This is because they will know exactly where everything needs to be and where it needs to go once it has been unloaded. Shipping containers are also very compact in size, which isn’t a problem for VNA forklifts. They’re designed for small, compact spaces. But don’t let their petite chassis fool you. VNA forklifts from Aisle-Master are actually very durable, powerful machines. They have a considerable weight capacity – perfect for loading shipping containers at the loading docks.

4. Forklifts in recycling centres

Forklifts in recycling centres can do so much more than effortlessly transport heavy, bulky and misshapen loads from A-to-B. They can be used in a recycling centre to compress bales of materials, for example. This is all possible with the right forklift attachments, such as a bale clamp. In addition, you can also use a hopper, for example, to move glass, metal or plastic recycling materials.

Most forklifts will have the capacity to deal with every waste type found at a recycling centre. With an extensive range of weight, lift and height capacities to choose from, you’ll always be able to implement a forklift from us here at Multy Lift that will make short work of operations in a recycling centre, not just a warehouse. Most recycling centres are located outdoors. This means you’ll have free-reign of fuel types to choose from, including diesel, LPG and electric.

5. Forklifts in farming

Farms use a wide range of heavy equipment, including tractors, cultivators and combine harvesters to get the job done. Depending on what it is you farm, however, you will find a forklift incredibly beneficial. This is especially the case if it’s an electric forklift. A forklift affords you the opportunity to carry out multiple jobs. All without having to bring out large tractors or other pieces of farming machinery. Forklifts will make short work of agricultural applications, including lifting and transporting:

  • Hay bales
  • Palletised goods
  • Bags of seed
  • Bags of fertiliser

A forklift will have no trouble navigating loose, rough or uneven terrain; something that a farming environment will likely have. For an effective, reliable piece of equipment that will get the job done, implement a forklift into your fleet. Choose between different fuel types, including diesel, electric or LPG
